Background on the North East LA Homeless Shelter

The North East LA Homeless Shelter operates out of the Highland Park All Saints Episcopal Church from December – March, during the coldest months of the year. During last year’s cold spell, the NELA Homeless Shelter was able to serve 170 people ranging from a family with a 6-month-old infant to a 76 year old senior citizen. It’s a really amazing volunteer run space that provides a hot meal every night, warm clothes, and a place for people to spend the night when it’s cold out. The Winter Shelter is run by Recycled Resources and provides access to social services for mental health and substance abuse, support groups, benefits establishments and provides assistance in securing longer-term housing. In addition, Recycled Resources conducts outreach to neighbors without shelter to deliver survival items such as tents, sleeping bags and warm clothing to meet the needs of our neighbors living outdoors.
